We’ll Prioritise Electoral Act, Constitution Amendments, 2026 Budget — Reps
The House of Representatives has resolved to prioritise the completion of the Electoral Act (amendment) Bill, the review of the constitution and the scrutiny of the 2026 budget during the 2026 legislative year.

The deputy speaker of House, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, stated this in his welcome remarks at plenary yesterday as the National Assembly resumed from the Christmas and New Year break.

LEADERSHIP reports that civil society organisations (CSOs) had cautioned lawmakers against abandoning legislative business for political activities ahead of the redemption.

They particularly urged National Assembly members to expedite action on the electoral law amendment, the Constitution review, and the appropriation bill before them.

Kalu said the Senate would complete its part of the process of The Electoral Act is one of the major legislative milestones for 2026.

“There are targets and milestones that we hope to achieve this year. One of them is the Electoral Act. The coming days will show the Senate doing its part, having done our part.
The budget is currently before us, and I am sure that with your support from various committees of the House, we will do due diligence in making sure that the budget becomes a working instrument for the MDAs and for the nation at large,” he said.

Thereafter, the House adjourned plenary to mourn the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki (Nasarawa North) in line with its Standing Rules.
