An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 rocked Garut Regency, West Java, Saturday (27/4/2024) at 23.29 WIB. Quoted from the official X (Twitter) application of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), @infoBMKG, the location of the earthquake was 151 km southwest of Garut Regency with a depth of 10 km.

The earthquake was felt as far away as Jakarta. One of the residents of West Jakarta, Fika, said the earthquake occurred for a few seconds. “Everything was shaking like that, like we were riding in a chair but it was shaking like that, I was nervous,” said Fika.

The area felt the earthquake The earthquake was felt in the Sukabumi and Tasikmalaya areas with an intensity scale of IV MMI (if it was felt by many people in the house during the day), Bandung and Garut with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI (if it was felt by many people in the house during the day), Tangerang, South Tangerang, Bogor, DKI Jakarta, Kebumen, Banyumas, Cilacap and Purwokerto with an intensity scale of III MMI (vibrations felt real in the house and the vibration felt as if a truck was passing by).

The earthquake was also felt in Bantul, Sleman, Kulonprogo, Trenggalek, Malang with an intensity scale of II MMI (vibrations felt by several people, light objects hanging swaying). Modeling results show that the earthquake has no potential to cause a tsunami.
