The news of the death of North Korean President Kim Jong Un has been widely circulated on social media since last weekend. This information has not been proven, while North Korean state media released the latest photo of the leader while visiting an exhibition in Pyongyang on Tuesday (20/10).
Citing the Seoul Economic Daily, the rumor said Kim suffered a severe brain hemorrhage, was taken to Beijing, and then died. The news added that his body was secretly returned to North Korea, while his younger brother, Kim Yo Jong, took power.
The main source of the news is Xie Wanjun, a Chinese dissident who lives in the United States and claims to be the leader of the Chinese Democratic Party.
Xie uploaded his claim via the X platform on October 18. He said the Peking Union Hospital medical team was sent to North Korea on Oct. 17, then Kim was transferred to Beijing because North Korea’s health facilities were limited.
