Benue Community Holds Mass Burial For Victims Of Herdsmen Attack
MAKURDI, NIGERIA — Deep sadness and palpable anger enveloped the Otukpo-Nobi community in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on Friday as residents gathered for the mass burial of victims killed in a recent terrorist attack.
The mass burial followed a violent invasion by suspected armed Fulani herders during the early hours of last Sunday. The attackers left eight people dead, injured numerous others, and forced hundreds of terrified residents to flee their ancestral homes.
An Emotional Farewell
The atmosphere at the burial ceremony was highly emotional. Tearful family members stood alongside traditional rulers, religious figures, and sympathizers to pay their last respects. Mourners described the senseless killings as heartbreaking and devastating to the local community.
Demands For Federal Government Intervention
During the funeral, community leaders and mourners expressed profound frustration with the worsening insecurity. They directly appealed to the Federal Government, calling on President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s national security agencies to take immediate action:

- Apprehend Perpetrators: Track down, arrest, and prosecute the armed attackers responsible for the massacre.
- Restore Safety for IDPs: Deploy permanent security forces to the area so that displaced families can safely return to their homes.
Widespread Insecurity In Benue State
Benue State has suffered a severe surge in fatal raids by suspected armed herders over recent months. Local government areas including Otukpo, Gwer East, Apa, Agatu, and Kwande continue to witness high numbers of deaths, severe injuries, and mass displacement.
