Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has condemned the arrest of activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, describing it as “a miscarriage of justice and an abuse of state power.”

Sowore was taken into custody on Thursday, shortly after voluntarily honouring an invitation by the Nigeria Police Force.

Obi while writing on his X-Handle noted that no clear charges had been made public, calling the detention “deeply troubling” and “unwarranted.”

“When those entrusted with power act unjustly, they poison not only the legal order but the moral conscience of the nation,” he warned, urging the police to either release Sowore immediately or charge him formally.

He stressed that the rule of law must apply equally to all citizens, regardless of political or ideological differences.
