Obi of Onitsha -Igwe Alfred Achebe Celebrates 85 Years

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has celebrated the Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, on the occasion of his 85th birthday anniversary.

In a statement issued in Abuja on May 14, 2026, the association described the monarch as a symbol of wisdom, statesmanship, cultural pride and transformational leadership.

The statement, signed by the National Publicity Secretary of AANI, Ifeanyi Jude Ngama, quoted the President of the association, Emmanuel Obi Okafor, as commending the monarch’s enduring contributions to national development and leadership.

According to AANI, Igwe Achebe holds a unique place in the history of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies as a member of the maiden Senior Executive Course (SEC 1) held in 1979.

According to the statement, since ascending the throne as the 21st Obi of Onitsha, the monarch has remained committed to preserving culture and tradition while promoting education, peace, youth development, national unity and responsible leadership.

“AANI celebrates not only a royal father of global repute, but also a mentor, bridge-builder, patriot, and elder statesman whose influence transcends generations and borders,” the statement read.

The association described the monarch’s life at 85 as a legacy defined by integrity, excellence, service and humanity, adding that his leadership continues to inspire admiration within and outside Nigeria.

AANI also prayed for God to grant the monarch continued good health, wisdom, peace and many more years of impactful service to humanity
